Essentially I've inherited an admin position where no one else can advise me on what to do with the phones. At first, the phone rang directly to mine but it also rang to a coworker and they requested to have that removed from their phone but now it no longer rings to me, but to someone else entirely.

Additionally, resetting the voicemail doesn't work and I can't access it.

Does anyone have any advice? I cannot open the phone but it is a Nortel M7268.

Will assume you meant M7208

"where no one else can advise me on what to do with the phones"
How it normally works is when you have any issues or changes you put in a service call to your Nortel Norstar Vendor whom does the "Configuration" programming.
Any company that wants an employee to do basic administration changes will be given access to "Administration" and given admin training or they can read the System Administration Guide (up to inch and half thick depending on system model).
Programming is done through the phone, you need to know the passwords and how to navigate programming before you can be helped here.
Older systems can be programmed from a x7208 while the newer larger systems need a 2 line display phone with the 3 softkeys under the display.

"Does anyone have any advice?"
You can also call a vendor for a remote programming session, suggested at this time.

"At first, the phone rang directly to mine"
Everyone's phone rings directly to them, be more specific such as your main lines ring at your set? or an option from the Auto Attendant rings at your set?

"they requested to have that removed from their phone but now it no longer rings to me"
Why does it no longer ring? sounds like somebody was into programming.
Where does it ring now? does it ring the lowest extension on the system like 21 or 221?
If you use Feature * 0 then you can press each button and it will tell you what they do and might provide a clue.

"I cannot open the phone"
Why do you need to open the phone?

"Additionally, resetting the voicemail doesn't work and I can't access it"
Be more specific, what are you trying to access? your mailbox? administration programming? what feature are you using and what does it say on the display when activated?

It might be worthwhile looking for the phone system and uploading a photo of it. The Nortel range of phones were usually compatible across most versions of Norstars and BCM etc.

I appreciate that you have been lumbered with looking after it without knowing anything on what to do but Curly is right in that there are so many varibles and your questions probably wasn't as informative as we would like to see when trying to give you a constructive reply back.

Under the phone, there should be a model type and let us know what it is please?.
I've noticed in recent years that more and more queries are posted by users rather than engineers which is why it's very frustrating as we all offer our help for free.

All,

I appreciate the frustration with my lack of detail and apologize - I'm out of my depth here and appreciate the attempt to advise. Let me try to be more specific -

I've been relying on system guidebooks that were given to me and that is my only resource, on top of this website. I went into config (Feature+**266344) and set the phone of the person who requested it not ring to them to Appear only. My extension is set as Ring&Appear, but now the phone rings directly to the extension above mine. Mine is 222, it rings to 238. 238 is set to Unassigned. The other employees are also set as unassigned. In this setting, my phone is the only one that has ringing on, but incoming calls no longer direct to my phone. This is the only thing that I did with configuration.

My issue with the voicemail is that I cannot reset the password. My current method for checking voicemail is Feature&983 -> 1020000 -> mbox -> change -> my extension -> reset, then Feature&981 -> 1020000 -> Change password -> voicemail and then I reset again using Feature + 985 -> 9 -> resetmpswd -> yes. The mbox reset does not reset to 0000 and when prompted to change the password it just renders code 1020000 invalid and must be reset.

Thank you for any and all assistance.

Check you two extension are correct using (at each phone) Feature * 0 then press Intercom and look at the display to see your DN.

As for voicemail you are confused on some things...
"My current method for checking voicemail is Feature&983"
Wrong!

F983 is for Admin (Password 102XXXX)
If you forget the admin password for F983 then you use F985 to reset it

F981 is for user to get into their mailbox
If the they forget the password then go into Feature 983/Mbox/XXX/Reset
The password at the mailbox is now 0000
User is to do F981, 0000, change password, verify, done.

The code "Feature" *0 for Key enquiry is a useful feature as it can be used on any key. I would check all the keys on the phone. The chances are that some of the keys are wrongly labeled which is very annoying. by default, there is usually two intercom keys assigned and you might have a Handsfree Key underneath them.

Another problem is that your phone system could be losing some of it's ability to retain it's programming. The capacitor inside the Norstar only ever had a limited life which has for almost all of them exceded most peoples expectations.
