Hi. I have a Win2K server with a pretty-well fragmented partition. I've run defrag on it dozens of times, and there are still TONS of file fragments left on the drive. The little color display is almost 90% red. There is 39% free space on the drive.

Is there some kind of setting I can adjust to keep defrag chugging at it until I get a better result? It seems to only take defrag about 5 minutes to "defrag" the drive. I need to get this in shape.

Thanks.

In the analysis, what are your most fragmented files and how large are they?

You can remove them by MOVING them to another drive and then defragging, then moving them back.

Usually when a server reaches about 35% avail space defrag seems to have issues. A couple things to consider
- Try moving your pagefile to another partition if you haven't already
- Move data files temporarily to another location
- If you are running applications that lock files like Exchange or SQL server, you will need to stop these services before performing a defrag.

Hope this helps
