Somebody please help. I am currently working on trying to connect a second isp for backup to the office. I am just afraid that when I enter all the info for the new service (2 t-1s dedicated) it will knock off my other provider since I entered the new gateway address, subnet mask and so on) Please help if possible..

This is on a Windows 2000 server.

Thanks

Is the primary and backup connections on different routers? If so, I would suggest enabling HSRP on those routers. This will provide you with a virtual gateway address which you will configure on your server however in the event of failure of the primary ISP, traffic automatically switches to the backup.

Do you have 2 different ISPs? Do you have any internet facing servers (web, email, ftp, etc)? how many routers do you have? what is the purpose of the backup link? is it to allow the world to have access to your servers or to give uninterupted access to the internet for your office?

knowing the answers to these questions it'll be a little easier undersand your problem. thanks

We have a DSL modem connected to the switch which all other users have access to the internet via network(LAN). The server is a domain controller. The T-1 is not a plug and play..according to our service provider you have to enter in all info such as gateway address and subnet mask and so on through each computer. How do we utilize both services through our switch at the same time. (T-1 and DSL) hope this helps out a little..

The purpose of the services is to run at the same time to increase our speeds of download from 3mbs with only dsl to 6mbs with both dsl and the two t-1s.

thanks

you could change default gateway on a half of workstation. that would make use of both links.

The max speed of download on a single client wouldn't change tho. Addinng second link from different provider wouldn't increase the total "speed" of links. It'll only make more bandwitdh available to your users even if you utilize some sort of load ballancing
