I've configured a 7960 with a 7914 in order for a secretary to monitor managers lines. I've configured the 7914 as all DN (eg all buttons are DN's). Things work okay and the secretary is able to see when managers are on the line or being called etc. Just a couple of niggles though...

If someone calls a manager whose line is being monitored, the secretary has the message '1 new missed call' if the call wasn't answered, and if a voicemail message was left, the secretary's phone has the message 'You have voicemail', even though it's the managers phone which has voicemail and not her phone. Is there any way to stop this behaviour and still have the capability to monitor other parties lines?

Not using the 7914 configured as DN's. Have them use Console Attendant instead. This will show you status of everyone and give you different methods to control the calls.

I had the same problem. I ended up putting a second phone at my receptionist's desk so that she could have a phone to monitor and a phone to use.

Not the cheapest solution, but we were not ready to train and support the Console Attendant.

Our users love the Attendant console software. It's very easy to use, and I have not had a single support issue with in the twelve months since it was installed. Our receptionist still has 7914 sidecards, but she's using them as speed dials rather than line status buttons.
