We're about to migrate a rather complex Access app to an Oracle database. To the extent possible, we want to continue to use the existing Access front-end forms/reports, and "just" replace the Access database with Oracle.
The "Access to Oracle" FAQ (FAQ701-3510) seems to address the differences in the SQL, but does not discuss the issues that will be encountered when you point directly to an Oracle table from an Access form/report (without having coded any SQL).
For example, if I have a form that references an Oracle date field, where would I code the "to-date" or "to-char" (as described in the FAQ)? Is it possible to code to-date functions (or other inline logic) when referencing a table directly from an Access form?
Or do we have to change all the Access forms/reports to use either an SQL Statement or query as its data source, as opposed to just referencing the source table directly from the form/report? (ouch!)
Is there a way to address at least some of the Oracle-related issues while continuing to use the existing Access forms/reports to directly access Oracle tables?
Thanks,
