I'm trying to install SQLserver7 to replace an old and dying development machine.

I've installed all the components (onto a WinXPpro PC) - desktop edition - but the Service Manager only allows me to startup the 'distributed transaction coordinator' (as a selection in the dropdown list).

How do I get the MSSQLSVR service to startup??

It was simple as anything to install this last time (onto w2k prof). I just installed and it worked.

Can you help me out??

Mike

Check Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Services. Make sure that the MSSQLSERVER service is installed and configured. If it isn't, then your install didn't complete correctly, or you didn't install the server.

I knew the service wasn't started - was trying to get it to start.

I ended up finding the stepwise method for a manual uninstall - did that, then reinstalled and all is well.
