Hi all,

A nec 8100 is acting pretty strange and is not booting up correctly, it seems there was a power failure at the local electric company and the clients generator didn't kick in.
The nec was behind a ups, but the battery died.
When the power came back, the lights on the pbx kept flashing only and didn't stabilize, the client did a reboot but it still didn't help.
I will go and check it tomorrow, but has anyone had this type of issue with this system, what do I have to do in this case? Reboot, again, reset?
If I reset do I lose any license that is in the system, because they have digital and a few ip phones?
What is the default ip of the pbx if I reset it?

thank you in advance

A reset won't change whatever the IP address is currently set to, a factory default will reset it to the standard IP address which PCPro will know already. If you are browsing into it, why? If you are qualified to work on these, you would know the default IP, I am concerned that you are proposing to default a system that you don't seem to know enough about. Have you got the license files if you need to reload those, MOH and any greetings and night messages?

First thing I would be doing is pop out all the blades except the CPU and see if that will boot up. Then if it doesn't, you know it is one of three things, the CPU, the PSU or the backplane (that said, if there are daughter cards on the CPU, you could try removing them). If it does come up, add the blades one at a time till it fails. Do you have a backup?

A factory default will not clear out licenses. Many times a factory default will eliminate corruptions and restore to default database. After that you can reload a back up. Keep in mind that if you have an inmail VM chip, it will lose any uploaded MOH files and greetings.

Hi Guys,

thank you for your replies.

The issue is solved, the client didn't reboot proper.
I when there, I shut down the expansion unit first then the main unit.
Then I turned on the main unit first and waited till it activated fully, then I turned on expansion unit that came up also.

Sorry OzzieGeorge, I made a mistake when I said reset, I meant a factory default, also I found that the default IP is 192.168.0.10, so if I am not mistaken it is the same for SL1000, topaz, etc.
I do have the licenses and backup also, so if worse where to come I would have checked the setup first with the cpu like you suggested.

Belevedere, so if I understand correctly the 8100 will not remove the licenses when factory reset, if that's so, that is pretty handy.

Also if you have a backup with this system, will it also save the greeting, if not can you extract it from the system?

Thank you both again

If you have the inmail chip, then you can log in with WEBPro and download the greetings. The published default log in is USER1 + 1111 password.

No, for WEBPro log in for user applications it's USER1 = 1111 at default. Try it, or look it up in the programming manual 90-02
