We just upgraded a system to r7.v 9
installed a 408mlx in slot 01
they have only 8 mlx sets and some 20 bis /atl
sets ...also added 2nd carrier with DS1 and Merlin Mail

issue with MLX locking up not able to dial out
go off-hook .....depress any key * , 0 , # 1-9
depressing any buttons have no effect
reset slot 01
reset carrier 01 then 02
reset carrier 02 then 01

the phones are referb (most sn# are 93/94)
we already replaced the Processor and 408mlx

I remember awhile ago the sleepy set issue but this one is
new .....they are referbed sets so you get what you pay for

no issue with Merlin Mail
no issue with any bis/atl sets

Might be a power problem. What power mod is it. Also you might try using 8 conductor cords, that was a problem awhile back.

Sleepy MLX sets can be caused by defective flex boards. Does unplugging the phone for a few seconds and then plugging it back in bring it back to life? If so I would suspect the flex boards are the problem.

Also check your carriers' power supplies to see that they are 391A3 or higher.

Not all refurb houses will replace the flex circuits... I would suspect the power supply first, then the flex circuits. Do what was suggested above, unplug and reset a phone. If it comes up properly, then craps out again, you bought bad phones.

You said you reset slot 1, but did you do a board renumber? The issue could be a conflict between the old 408 ATL and the new 408MLX not being recognized properly. A board renumber will allow the processor to recognize the modules properly.

we did do a board renumber when installing the 408MLX

I have unplugged each phone for about 2 minutes at time
but still not able to break dialtone .....hook switches
don't see the user hang up the set on 2 of the 8 phones

I have even brought the phones back to the control unit
and plugged right into the MLX ports with the same results
taking inside wiring out of the mix

I would take out all boards except the processor and the 408MLX and see if the phones work in that scenerio. If they do, I would add each board (1) at a time to see when the problem starts to occur. If they still don't work, I would look at the 408mlx module or the processor since those are the two new pieces added to the puzzle.

Replaced all the troubled sets with new sets not referb
type no issue anymore ....you get what you pay for

thanks for all the posts :)

As a seller of refurbished phones aas well as a repair company, I am disgusted by the number of sellers of "refurbished" equipment out there that just clean up the phone, slap a new cord on it, and sell it as "refurbished" without ever even testing it let alone replacing parts with known potential problems.
We sell refurbished MLS and MLX sets and every single one of them has a brand new flex circuit in it when it leaves here.
Unscrupulous sellers of out of service equipment who call their product "refurbished" give all of us in the business a bad name.
One way to avoid some of the problems is to find out how long the company has been in business. The word usually gets out pretty quickly about unscrupulous sellers of shoddy equipment and they usually do not last long.

We have been no issues in the past with resellers but for
some reason decided to try a New Vendor ($$$$) I'm told the profit margins were low so they tried to save a $ or 2

As for Paul144 & exsmogger I was not knocking the reseller
market and have been very happy with product in the past
one bad apple in the bunch :)
we even got the reseller to fess up that they did not test
the product but as you stated just "cleaned" them up a bit
they said they did not have time ....product came in and went out as he stated .....again thanks for the posts
and comments

Changing a flex circuit and testing the phone takes a competent tech about 10 minutes. That reseller should not be in business.

I know this may be a really dumb question, however, you did try the phone in a different port on the MLX card, right?? I had an issue like this, in our home. When we picked up the kitchen phone, and pressed "9," the button would hold, and the touch tone would not stop, and I would have to unplug the phone, well, I took it back to the control unit, and it did the same thing. So, we replaced the phone, with a BRAND NEW one, same results. Come to find out, the port was bad.

I tried all 8 available ports on the 408MLX with the troubled phones with the same results .....its been almost
7 days without issue ....and tried the troubled phones back here in the office with the same results .....we ended up
sending the phones back to the "reseller"
