Hi all,

We have an overseas employee who we set up with a 2050 softphone on our cs1000. He is on a LAN to LAN connection with our main office, as opposed to a dial-in VPN like most other offsite people. If he does the VPN thing, everything works great. But when he comes in over the LAN to LAN, the software works, and he can dial a number and hear the ringing, and dial tone, and everything else, but when someone picks up, or he dials into Callpilot, or a conference line, basically anything with voice, he cannot hear the voices. Any ideas as to why you can hear everything but voice?

Hmmm ... you say the VPN works fine but the LAN to LAN does not. Perhaps check what his IP is on the LAN to LAN versus what it is on the VPN - that may lead you to a network routing issue or something strange like that. Make sure his IP is in the same scope/VLAN as your other IP phones on campus and check the default gateway. Do you have any other IP phones on campus? Could be a QoS setting if data traffic is trumping his voice packets.

When he is dialling or getting tones, the IP exchange is with the TPS of the CS 1000. When he is talking to another IP Phone/Softphone the IP exchange is directly with the other IP Phone/Softphone. When he is talking to another digital/CallPilot/conf/trunk, the IP exchange is to the MGC/MC32 card in the CS 1000. Check your packet routing.

Hey on another post someone fixed this by changing an ACL - do you have any ACLs setup on your network? Check those!
