I am attempting to migrate all my user accounts to a new server and I discovered the newusers command which allows you to create a number of users based on a text file which is similar to /etc/passwd. I was able to create the accounts fine, but noticed that the contents of /etc/skel aren't copied to the user's home directories, so whenever they logon they receive the bash-3.00$ prompt
Am I missing something or is this a limitation of the command

Well folks apparently this is by design. If you need profile settings you will have to copy from /etc/skel

Why not use the useradd command in a shell script?

That was my first thought also Zeland, but since all I needed to do in this case was to make a copy of an existing /etc/passwd file to another file, substitute the password field with a generic password and then run the command, it was pretty quick and worked for the most part with the exception of copying the .profile files to the home directories.
