Hi everyone -

We're trying to remove a computer account in AD for a computer that no longer exists. Getting this error: "Object is a container and contains other objects. Are you sure you want to delete object and the objects it contains? This operation could take a long time if contains a large number of objects." It is, however, a machine. It errors after we answer YES - the error we receive is "The object (or some of the objects it contains) cannot be deleted because: Access is denied."

(I tried to delete this and so did another admin - we both get the same error. We are both using domain administrator accounts.) The machine account was disabled so we tried reenabling the machine account and deleting it - same error.

A few more tidbits:
- This is in the same OU as all of our other machines.
- The machine is history so we have no physical access to the box anymore.

Any tools, tips, etc. that anyone can share would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!
Robin

Nevermind, found the answer to my own problem. Thanks anyway folks. In active directory users and computers click on View -> click on "Advanced Features". Once you turn that on, when you look at properties of a object, you will notice another tab called security. Check to see who has permissions for this particular object.

Apparently this was changed.
