When installing a new site for example is it possible to connect the ISP connection directly to the Cisco PIX?

Why is an internet facing router required?

Is this simply best practice or is there a deeper more technical reason?

Please help.

You can directly connect your PIX/ASA to the cable or DSL modem.
The pix does not do more complicated routing scenarios and cannot take other media. A router will be more useful/needed in those cases.
