isolinux.cfg what does timeout mean? 1

In the isolinux.cfg file I have put TIMEOUT on 0 (so that the system should not wait on 'boot:',but it does the opposite. It waits forever. So my conclusion is that TIMEOUT on somthing big. But how big can I go ? default it was 100 but thats to long. I want my system to immediately take the first kernel as there is onlyone. Greetz,
