I have a piece of recording hardware called and M-Box. The main problem I have is that my OS (XP Pro) holds off on interrupts for to long and the program that runs the box (Pro Tools LE) errors. As I understand it, one of the causes of this problem is that there is a bottle neck of data which causes the error and this problem may be solved if I can move from a USB hub down to a single interface. So here is my question: What counts as a hub? I have 10 or 12 USB ports on my system. Is that a hub, if so, is there a way to force the hub to act as a single port?

Please let me know what questions you have.

Thanks in advance,
PJ

PJFry,

The USB interface/controller is a Hub. See your control panel/system/hardware devices/USB Root Hub.

As it begins as a hub I know of no way to change this.

Are you plugging this directly to a USB Port on your PC?

You might try disabling all other USB devices in the system/cp/hw devices/each device/properties. this will not un-install them just disable them.

I actually think that there is some other problem going on but can not determine remotely.

You might post back with some detail of what you referenced

What I ended up doing was getting a PCI card with two USB ports. It turns out that the problem was that the chip set on my system is one that is known to have problems with the MBox hardware. The addition of the PCI card allowed me to prioritize the interupts that the box needed.

Thanks for posting!

PJFry,

Glad that you found a solution.

Could you post back with the offending chipset/mobo information.

This might assist another attempting a similar interface.
