Isn't there a way for IE to detect screen size and/or resolution?

I have a web app that does not display correctly on the end users screen. Things look fine on the developers screen, which is much larger than the end users. For end users, the objects are too large, causing them to scroll left and right, up and down to get to all the objects on the screen. My developer says, other than getting users bigger screens, nothing can be done.

Is this true? Isn't there a way to have IE detect the screen size and/or resolution and adjust the display/objects accordingly?

Thanks in advance for ay help.

You could use JavaScript to get the users browsing width and height and then adjust things accordingly but that's more trouble than it's worth. It's probably best that your designer designs with multiple resolutions in mind and comes up with a flexible layout that is a good overall compromise.

Sounds like it's time to get a new developer......

Designing pages to work on multiple screen resolutions is a pretty basic fundamental of web design. Hope you're not paying him too much....

I have to agree with kaht's comment. If the developer doesn't realize what the typical user's screen size is and / or can't develop a page or site that fits, they're doing something very wrong.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll talk with him about designing pages for multiple resolutions and have him go back to the drawing board.

We are not paying him too much. It's one of those overseas outsourcing projects and my manager is hell bent on this development model. So I can't boot him. Thanks again.

Then your manager needs to get booted too! [wink]

Hope This Helps!

For my tuppence worth, even in this day and age we should still be ensuring our pages display correctly at 800 X 600.

Remember that not everyone browses with a full size window.

Regards, Andy.

Hell.... he's probably not even the one coding it then. Likely he copied/pasted it from somewhere else. [lol]
