Hi guys,

I rebooted my ICP 3300 CX II last night to updates my voicemail ports used and my E1 ISDN link didn't come back up.

The port LED was flashing green.

The thing I did yesterday was to increase the number of VM ports to 16. I also assign all of them into one single voicemail huntgroup.

I have removed some voicemail ports from the huntgroup and rebooted again my ICP and the link seems to be working now.

I wonder if the system require some DSP resources to use the ISDN ?

My system is a CX II which comes with 2 DSP 21363 and a T1/E1 card.

Any view ?

Thanks.

Do you have any compression resources assigned on the system?

Well I've 8 compression licences but I don't believe to use them anywhere.

I wonder if it's related to the alarm I've got

The system is a ICP 3300 CX II which comes with 2 DSP 21363 provided by the main board and one DSP 21161 provided by the T1/E1 card.

See DUMPDSPBOOTINFO below
--------------------------
Dsp(0,0): mmcSlot=1 (1-based) Load Type: TELEPHONY(1,"/sysro/DspConfig/TELEPHONY.161")
Mod Type: NOCONFERENCE(1)
Dsp(1,0): mmcSlot=4 (1-based) Load Type: TELEEC(6,"/sysro/DspConfig/TeleEC.363")
Mod Type: NOCONFERENCE(1)
Dsp(1,1): mmcSlot=4 (1-based) Load Type: TELEEC(6,"/sysro/DspConfig/TeleEC.363")
Mod Type: NOVOICEMAIL(7)

However I keep having an alarm:
Category Name DSP Status
Alarm Level Minor
Total 5
Unavailable% 40

It seems the system count too many DSPs.

If a do a SHOWDSPSTATUS
Dsp Status: (Warning! This only displays the current state of the dsps in the system. Failures previous to a system reboot are not recorded.)

Slot Number 0 Dsp 0 State: ACTIVE

Slot Number 3 Dsp 0 State: ACTIVE
Slot Number 3 Dsp 1 State: ACTIVE

We need IrwinFletcher to respond to the DSP errors as he is my acknowledged expert on that subject.

I can only quote design specs from the Tech Handbook

A CX II with no add on DSP's and a single T1/E1 module will support:
[tt]
Configuration - Base + one T1/E1 Combo
# of DSPs - 3
Echo Canceller - 42
G729 - 0
Conf - 10x3
E2T - 64
T.38 - 0
DTMF Receivers - 42
Voice Mail Ports - 16
[/tt]

I believe the issue is that you have compression licenses regardless of the fact that they are used. The configuration you have does not support compression at all. To support 8 compression licenses you need to add a Quad DSP to the Base Config.

I agree with that, I double checked with the THB.

Does that explain why I had this issue with my ISDN ?

I don't know why the T1 wouldn't sync. Logs during that time might help. The steps that you took to create and correct the problem strongly indicates a DSP resource issue. The Tech manual backs that theory up.

Rather than a sync issue, I think the issue is more about the dial tone. I believe this uses DSP ressources, so I none are available, you get a out of service message when You try to seize the channel

flashing green means no D-Channel not No Dial tone. You could have all the DSP's in the world but no D-Channel it ain't gonna work.
