Calls from my Definity cannot override our PICed long distance carrier using 10-10-xxx. These calls fail and "list trace sta xxxx" gives an ISDN reject message.

1) Can someone here suggest a protocol analyzer that can decode ISDN messages and that would be suitable to help me troubleshoot this problem?

2) If you needed to rent one in your town, what kind of vendor would you call?

I think you may be on the right tract, but I dont beleive you are going in the right direction. I would have Avaya or my LD carrier or both to resolve this for me. If you have a maintenance agreement with Avaya this should cost less than renting the protocal analyzer. Also make your both providers realise that this is a problem that needs to be resolved regaurdless of fault. I have been in your situatuion before and this is how we resolved our problems.

Hope this helps.

Mikey,
Thanks for the reply. Since I do not have a maintenance agreement with Avaya, T&M charges would be prohibitive.

I can't prove it yet but I suspect that our CLEC is blocking dial around without intending to do so. Is this possible? They have a DMS-500 and claim that they are NOT blocking us.

I like your suggestion to get the LD provider involved.

It has been a while since I programmed anything on a Definity but my intuition is that the definity has a limit of the number of digits that they send out on the PRI/BRI and that the equal access codes must be emplaced in the definity somewhere in the dialing tables or the number of digits outpulsed/sent needs to be upped by 7.

Have you looked at and asked this question on the definity forum forum690 ?

they might be able to shed some light on your problem. Please let us know what your end result is.

Jerry,
You are correct about the need to increase the number of digits in the ARS Digit Analysis table to account for the entire dial string. I modified an existing entry to specifically allow dial-around to MCI (PIC code 0555). It is 10105551 for 18 digits. I believe I've got this part of the system properly set.

I assume this is a PRI circuit. Have the CLEC check 'table: ltcalls' for your trunk group. The option is EA and this is where you enter your PIC. The last element of this option is a simple yes or no to allow a 'choice' or dial around.

I don't know of any companies that do short term rental of test equipment, I know GE Capitol does leases. I'd suggest a (Acturna) TPI 550, or a (Acturna) T-Berd 2310. These are both decent pieces of test equipment. The 550 is probably a more cost effective product for what you need.

Also, can you post the reject message? Depending on the format, they can be easily decoded.

Pragmatic,
Thank you very much for posting the config area our CLEC should check. Would this information apply to a DMS-500? If so, I will contact the switch tech next week and have him look at the itcalls table, ea option.

Definity's list trace shows the following when I attempt to dial around our pic'd carrier:

denial event 1164: ISDN reject D2=DG/LOC/CV D1=0x86 D2=0x280f01

Does this tell you anything?
Bob

Yes, that information is relevant on DMS100 and DMS500.
I'll take a look at the reject message, I've never seen it in that format before, but I'll give it a shot.
