I've got a Linux RH 7.1 server running, up til now it was configured as a firewall for a DSL connection (NIC to NIC) and now I want it to configured for a dial-up connection, (ISDN to NIC)

I've tried an AVM Fritz! PCI ISDN card in it, but no cigar. Does anyone out there know what kinds of ISDN cards are supported under RH7.1? or where I can get the RPM's?

PS I'm using European ISDN (BT)

Cheers.... Tels

Hi,

Yes that card is supported and, its a passive hisax variant. What I'm not too sure is whether the standard hisax module is sufficient or if you need to compile a custom kernel. Assuming you have the kernel source installed in /usr/src/linux if you 'cd' to that directory and do 'make xconfig' then select 'ISDN subsystem' and then 'passive cards' you will see (scroll down a bit) that card listed.

You can try just doing the command 'isdn-config' and clicking on the 'hardware' tab and selecting the card from the drop-down box. Maybe it will just work out of the box.

Also, you will need the following rpms installed :

internet-config
isdn4k-utils
xisdnload (optional)

Hope this helps

Oops, sorry...
Isdn != FR..got boggled there.

Absolutely brill. I got it sorted (had a hairy moment with MS DNS though on the way)

Turns out you were completely spot on ifincham, once I installed that RPM, isdnconf works fine! many thanks once again......

What would the command syntax be to launch an ISDN connection from the command line, I can do it within KDE but I still can't work out the MAN page..... for pint$ = 1 to 20

Hi,

Its very simple :

/usr/sbin/isdnctrl dial ippp0

also do :

/usr/sbin/isdnctrl status ippp0

and eventually..

/usr/sbin/isdnctrl hangup ippp0

See 'man isdnctrl' .

Regards

Another star well earned..... Thanks. I'm right where I needed to be (writing this post from behind a Linux dynamic-ip firewall)

Cheers...
