There are two three computers in our office LAN which when connected to the LAN through network cable shuts down automatically in 60 seconds. When the network cable is unplugged the computers work fine but as soon as it is connected the systems shuts down.

Can someone tell me how to remove this problem. The OS on the computer is windows XP Pro.

Thanks

Virus removal should be pretty straightforward in a company environment. Boot the affected PCs from a valid floppy, and give them a DOS antivirus run.

Then check all other PCs in the company for viruses.

You do have an anti-virus for your company ? If not, now is the time to get one.

Sounds like the notorious Sasser or a varient. An easyand effective way to remove a worm like sasser is to unplug computer from the network and run the sasser fix (Available from sarc.com). Leave this pc unplugged and do the same on the next p.c. untill all pc's on the network are clean and unplugged. Next your server's should be cleaned. This is the only effective way to cure a worm type virus such as sasser.
This is because the worm will live in the network and will keep reinfecting the P.C.s. Download Sp2 for X.P. on each machine also.
Hope this helps

Don't forget to turn off system restore before you start. Or you might be doing it all over again tomorrow.
