ISAPI and Apache

I am attempting to use Internet Server Extentions(.dll's) w/ apache 1.3.19 (windows 2000). From what the documentation says, all I need to do is add 'AddHandler isapi-asa .dll' to the configuration file. I set up a directory to hold the dll's and gave the folder 'Options All' to make sure it has the permissions to execute. Unfortunately, when I attempt to access a demo dll function, the return value is mixed. Initially, a 200 OK is returned but while processing, an Internal Server Error occurs causing a 500 to be returned too. The error.log says premature end of script. Any ideas what is wrong? Any help would be greatly apreciated
