ISAM Explanation?

I am looking for an explanation of the way ISAM is set up and how it works. Google uses ISAM in dexin g as the way to store web pages and fetch with one disk access.

johnherman's replies give ample information. If you want detail, check the last one. As for examples of ISAM databases, all the old PC-Based RDBMS's use it, such as dBase, Paradox, RBase, and Access.
