i have ISA server 2004 installed on a Windosw 2003 server which I am using as a proxy. Both internal and external interfaces are on the same subnet. I just route internet traffic through this box so that I can log and control usage. Most of the time it works fine but every so ofter a user will be prompted for their username, password and domain. Most of the time (don't think this is always the case) access is granted after entering their details. I would prefer for this prompt not to appear.

I have set up a number of rules and grant access based on a users domain login.

We also have another problem which occurs at the same frequency( not sure if they are linked) We manage the box using a remote desktop connection. Sometimes when we try to connect we get n error "RPC service unavailable". Restarting the server fixes this but I also think it may resolve itself if left alone for a while.

Has anyone else come across these issues? Any help would be appreciated.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

It sounds as though the server has potential intermittent issues as I've not heard of either of those problems before.

If the clients prompting issue is intermittent could it be the client PC's?

Could be worth backing up the ISA config and re-installing...specially if you've played around to find out what rules you need, it just puts these back on an even playing field.

Hope this helps.
