We're hainvg a problem with our 2004 ISA Server. WE're connecting to a site to download a specific document. The link for the download redirects us to the same site but on port 8085.

I setup a rule to allow port 8085 through from all but am still getting this error.

Error Code 10061: Connection refused
Background: The server you are attempting to access has refused the connection with the gateway. This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the server.
Date: 5/16/2006 2:07:33 PM
Server: (site.server.local)
Source: Remote server

This isn't an ISA issue. If you look at the last line of the error, it shows the source as the Remote Server. If I had to guess, I'd say whoever created the link had a typo. Try changing 8085 to 8080 and see if that fixes it. If that doesn't work, contact the web admin for the remote site and verify the link.

The remote vendor said that they get this error all the time and that the fix is a change to our 'firewall' or ISA server in this case.

I am going to do some testing on the site myself, outside of the ISA environment first. Thanks.

going under the assumption that I cannot get the remote site to change the way their site allows this connectivity..

Is there somethign I can do to get ISA to make the connection properly?

Well, the error is for a connection refused...doesn't give much wiggle room as far as making a connection. One thing you can try is disable the firewall client and just use the proxy settings inside of IE. This will bypass some of the conversion that ISA does to the packets. Short of that, I'd look at possibly connecting from the server or a different location that doesn't have an ISA Server.
