Does anyone know how much cheaper it would be building your own shopping cart
instead of using a pre-built one like Yahoo shopping?

My brother is paying $100.00 a month, plus 1% of total sales to Yahoo. He sometimes
has to pay over $300.00 a month to Yahoo. His site:
Are the fees any less for having your own cart and using a service like Authorize.net?
Does someone know for sure if having your own cart would definately be cheaper?

I'm rebuilding my brothers website using ASP.NET/SQL Server. So far the first fee is
the monthly hosting fee of $20.00 (needed for ASP/SQL hosting).

Thanks!

Actually these are two different things. Yahoo provides a shopping cart (for a fee), an electronic payment gateway (for a fee), and hosting (for a fee). Authorizenet.com is only an electronic payment gateway.

So you can get hosting at that good rate - great! Now all you need is a merchant account provider & an electronic payment gateway.

Having your own cart is sometimes cheaper. There are also companies out there that provide hosting services & carts for under $30 a month. You need to look into how much time it is going to be to build this cart. But yes - there are definitely cheaper solutions than Yahoo
