Unfortunately I am a little confused by the various server names and variations thereof!

I am looking to replace our Windows 2003 standard server; we have been told to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.

Have I understood correctly, this means I should choose Windows 2008?

Best regards

The short answer is yes.

The kernel of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are the same, but their features, capabilities, and licensing are different. Windows 7 is a client OS and Windows Server 2008 R2 is a server OS. Always upgrade using a like OS.
