My company is about to set up a Firewall and VPN configuration using Checkpoint Software.

I currently use Cisco 803's to connect several SOHO's(2 - 3 W/s at each site) through to a Cisco 3640 on ISDN.

For Backup ,when say ISDN is down at the 3640 end , it would be good to use VPN as Backup , can I do this through the 803 with a different IOS (current 12.0.1) ??????

If so (or not ) what would I need ???

Thanks

I've spoken to Cisco and they say that the Firewall and VPN feature is possible through all the Cisco Routers , given the correct amount of memory .
What would the required config be?
Has anyone seen evidence to the contrary ?
Does 'is possible ' equate to 'works OK' ?

A couple of the consultants I've had in to discuss the corporate Firewall/VPN said its not possible through 803's .

This has left me a bit confused ?

One of the bigger issues is if you are running NAT. It's possible but you need to be running PIX in order ot get the VPN through NAT. This is if I remember the cisco docs fully. The 803 I'm a not familer with so take what I say with a grain of salt :)

Apparently , it is possible ! Just put a single client on each W/S at the SOHO end, now all I have to do is find a 'free' ISP that has ISDN, then get testing!!

Checkpoint said they'd send an eval of Firewall / VPN ages ago but no show yet !
Any ideas how I could simulate this (Checkpoint) with some free software?
Bearing in mind that we haven't got any Firewall set up at the moment !!! Paul C.

when you get it working, post the details and config changes needed. You will save alot of us some work ;-)
