Here's the challenge:

I have a table with a memo field.

I want to build a unbounded form that has a button such that when I click the button, the memo field in the table is (permanently) changed to a text field.

Does anyone know if this can be done? I guess it boils down to whether or not you can get a 'handle' on a table field data type... I know little about this.

Thanks!

the question is why you would want to? this type of recasting suggests two things:

1. bad design in the db structure

3. you consider the data in the field not relevant. the recasting the datatype from a size of roughly 64k to 225 chars will lose significant data when this is redone...

from the access 2k help files:
In Visual Basic, you can use the ADO Type property to set a field's data type before appending it to the Fields collection.
