Is this kernel secure? 2.4.21-20.EL.c0smp #1 SMP ?

I'm running CentOS (Redhat enterprise clone)

Why arent they using 2.6.9?

Upgrading to a new major release of the kernel involves upgrading a lot more than just the kernel, which is probably why they haven't upgraded.

As to if it's secure, check the changelogs of subsequent 2.4 kernels. If they're at the latest release of 2.4, then I doubt there are any known security issues.

Red Hat Enterprise is on a slower release cycle, since it's intended for enterprises which don't want to upgrade every few months. I think Fedora, and know that recent versions of SUSE non-enterprise, use the 2.6 kernel.

I check kernel.org and the latest release is 2.4.28 seems 2.4.21 is insecure then, can anyone confirm this?

If you are worried then upgrade. It could be they just made improvements.

linuxMaestro, read the release notes and change logs, they can be found on kernel.org, also.
