I have just received an email that seems to be suggesting there is forthcoming legislation in the US to prevent us using Firewalls so they can snoop and prevent pirated software?
Does anyone know if there is any truth in this

Kind thoughts

Using my PC Celeron111 433mhz, 30Gb+8GB 256 RAM WinME
iMac OSX 10.2.4 17"Flat panel 80gb,800mhz,256 Ram, Superdrive

Seems there is some truth in it but the effect is not certain.... As usual politicians jump in where they have no knowledge of the effects... just trying to appease[[ how much does it cost BTW]
certain lobbyists..... other way s need to be found to stop piracy/ on the high seas or the net but not taking our protection away. as the yahoo group member who brought this to my attention said what happens in US s bound to follow in UK not long after.

So what can we do to prevent this happening.?
Anything ? Nothing?
Do we jump in before it happens or wait and see?
Kind thoughts

DMCA....Lets hate it together!

Check the sig! Tons of info on it. The 'firewalls are illegal' interpretation of the bill(s) are a side effect of a poorly written document.
According to them, firewalls and encryption is illegal.
Anything that changes the packet in anyway is deemed illegal under the DMCA (ie NAT, encryption).
Its incredibly ridiculous, and a lot of states have already passed a DMCA bill.
Read up on it, it will make you kind of sick.

I'll see your DMCA and raise you a First Amendment.

I've been a subscriber of a free newsletter from:

He has been reporting this for sometime now! He has info as to when and where the legistration is to voted (and passed) next! Write your congress!!!

We had better wake up to what the recording and movie industry are trying to do. All in the name of trying to stop P2P networks and pirates they have painted us all with the same brush! Our right are being stripped away, legally!

Cheers

Thx for all comments and advice given ;)

If this is the one I'm thinking of, it's been passed in 8 states. It was geared at FW's, but people that send out spam email from fictious email address and similiar types of attacks. Unforntunely, you get non-techical people writing technical legislation and presto. FW, router proxy server admins are now under the gun.

Glad I'm not in those states ;^)

rn4it the only problem is that most states (if not all) are scheduled to read and pass this law. So what is not your problem today, if left unchecked, will be your problem tommorrow!

Cheers
