being new to flash i am not sure how simple this will be.
my movie runs from the flash player and not in a web browser.

i need my users to press a button that opens a new instance of the flash player with a short movie, then when they have finished viewing that short movie they click a close button to return to the orginal movie.

any ideas?

FSCommand will do the trick!
Either open up another instance of the player with your short movie, or start another projector file, which is in fact your short movie in the .exe format.
In both cases, a button with FSCommand, within the short movie, will close that second player, and you'll be left with the first one.

thanx - but i can only get the fscommand to open up a new instance of IE, not the swf in it's own player, am i doing something wrong?

You are running this from a standalone (.exe) projector, and not from within the Flash apllication, right?
