I just got an error message stating that there was a problem in explorer.exe so I took a look at my Event Viewer and came across 7 errors in the last 2 days. Here is what ev is telling me :

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0.

Is this a bad cable, motherboard, or hard drive? Down a little ways I get more of these but this time it states :

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk4\DR7.

and

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR6.

Any ideas?

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is a problem with the hard disk drive, and often you will not have much more time to back the data off before losing the drive.
I would:

. immediately back off the data from the disk
. follow with a chkdsk /r in Recovery Console
. if no joy, or the error repeats soon after, you can drive the free diagnostic software that can be found on the website of the hard disk manufacturer. There is often a non-destructive repair procedure

In my personal experience this means the drive is likely to fail completely soon.
