Is there way to "reverse engineer" transformations and STT into data? We started our BI/ DW prject with a data dictionary which included the STT (Source to target) mappings. Over time the ETL developers, mainly due to time constraints, negelected to keep the data dictionary up-to-date, so most transformation and STT information now locked up in the ETL packages.

Is thre a way of "reverse engineering" this so that we can, without manually going through 500+ fields, see the transformations into all the target columns.

A long shot but worth asking before I embark on unnesesary work.

Have you looked at code plex to see if there might be something there?

Other than that I would say unless you have a wiz bang XML guy who can programtically read the code behind then you may have no choice.

Having a standard naming convention and commenting packages can help. It really depends on how complicated your packages are.
