Hi. I was wondering what Linux administrators do when you want to get rid of software that you don't use anymore. Is there a certain way to 'uninstall' something as there is in microsofts OS's? Or do you just remove the files you dont need anymore? Or is there a certain Linux way of doing it?

Depends on how you installed it. If you use a package manager, the manager has an uninstall feature.

If you installed from source you compiled yourself, you will most likely have to delete the files by hand. But then, this is a lot less painful than doing it on a Microsoft box -- the apps on Linux boxes are not intertwined as they are on MS boxes.

Hi,

to add a bit more, if you used the RPM package manager, then the -e option will remove it.

If you installed from source using the make command (config - make - make install), then an 'uninstall' directive is often available (make uninstall)
