I need to know if a specific file has been backed up or not in AIX ?

If you are using backup or mksysb then you can find some information in /etc/dumpdates. This file pecifies log for incremental by i-node backups.

This file is for keep reference information for creating incremental backups. See man backup for more information.

But it is much better to create a verbose log during backup.
