Is there backward compatibility yet?

Did Adobe ever fix this very PITA issue? I have a client that uses ID 2 and I have ID CS (I also own the 2.0 version but I'm used to the sidebar menus now). I'd like to use CS and be able to save back to 2 when I return the files to her.

Any chance of that happening?

Not on these versions. The next InDesign might have this function but bear in mind that InDesign has never backsaved and Adobe is done on development and patches for ID2 and IDCS. You are unfortunately stuck.
