I am trying to use an ATA (older one) on a CICS. The problem is that I get dial tone and then I get the CO saying that you must dial "1" or "0" and then the number. You move the ATA to other locations and it does the same thing. Brought the adapter right to the Cab and the same thing. What do you think. Richard S. McCranie

None that I know of. I have used ATA-2 and the I-ATA on the CICS many of time with no problem.
How is it setup?
Do yo have it set so you dial a pool goup?
or Is it set to Hotline the pool group?

mcrackin,
It sounds as if the ATA/port is auto dialing a long distance number and your Telco is prompting the required access. Check hotline programming in capabilities. ATA1s are not incompatable with the CICS.

It is an ATA 1. I thought that might be the problem. He say's that he tried a ATA2 but I kind of dont think so.

For a brief time I had ata2's that wern't recognising the digits generated by my ts21. The digets that were regognised were captured, held and redialed later. The digits that were not recognised were sent straight to the co. A telephone number 123-4567 (as dialed) would appear to the co as 412 3567. The digit 4 not being recognised.
I think for a time nortel had tightened the tolerance for recognising the dtmf tones. jmho...

Per Westcoaster's post try long tones.

Have to ask, are your outside lines centrex?

also what digits are you dialing into the ata?

You might want to clip a but set on to the outgoing trunk and listen to see if the outgoing tones sound ok. JerryReeve

The whole thing is that no digits are being dialed. He is just picking up the handset hearing dial tone for about a second and the the pre-recorded message. With out a single digit being dialed. I

t is not the SLT telephone. Tried a buttset with the same result. It is not the port. I moved it to different ports and it did the same thing. Also I put a keyset in the same port and the keyset did not show the problem. It just sound like to me it is a issue with compatability of the ATA1 and the CICS. Richard S. McCranie

If you are getting that just from going off hook the port the ATA is set up on may be a hotline set to ring a phone or phantom dn that is tp dial another outside line.

have you tried this on another DN? JerryReeve

That was one of the first thing that I thought. So I went and put a keyset in its place and the keyset operated fine. So then I thought that it might have been the Single line telephone that I was using. So I used my buttset. And got the same thing. So then I tried it on a couple of different DN's and got the same result. Then I brought the ATA write to the cb by passing all of the wires and got the same result. The problem seemed to follow the ATA. Richard S. McCranie

I am not sure what to say at this point, as far as I know the ATA is a dumb device, it has no internal programming of its own. JerryReeve

It really sounds like you have a hotline programed on the ata. Errm... Do you have set relocation turned on?? If it is, moving the ata from one port to the next will just move the programing as well.

Mcrackin,
Any chance that the ATA is making a hook flash as you take it off hook? I had an ATA1 that would sieze the line when it got hot. If the relay in yours is stuttering when being called to close the loop, then you may be getting the observed effect.
??
