Is there an NTFS equivalent of the NW delete inhibit?

We are getting ready to transfer our File and Print duties over to W2K3. In Netware there are attributes called "Delete Inhibit" and "Rename Inhibit". These really help to cut down on accidental deletions and directory moves. Is there a similar setting in W2K3 that will enable this or is equivalent? I have not been able to find anything yet, other than the basic read-only setting that doesn't really match up.

Thanks.

Not that I'm aware of. Might be some third party products to do this. If there's anyhthing built into Windows, I'd like to hear of it.

Prepare yourself for the accidental folder drag/drop move that will happen if your users use Explorer a lot.

At one point, the people who make Diskeeper, the NT defragger utility, had an undelete, but it was to undelete files all ready deleted - kind of like the NW "Salvage" utility. As far as a file attribute, I don't know.

There is. Look at the advanced properties of the folder and look at special permissions. You can prevent certain users deleting folders and/or files.

Worked with Novell for years (MCNE), Microsoft's lack of rename and delete inhibit takes some adjustment.
I would highly recommend you purchase Executive Software's "Undelete", a wonderful ass saving software package, superior to "salvage". Set it up to exlude tmp files, especially those created by packages like Norton CE which create gigabytes of temp files. They make a great defraging program also, which can do boot time defrag and scheduled defrags.
