I have time warner cable and I'm trying to vpn or open up an ftp at home.
time warner is blocking the ports that will let me do that and I was wondering if there's a workarround to this situation?
I can see if they are blocking FTP ports, but they are blocking IPSec ports? That's strange...
Depending on the router/firewall you have I would confirm that with Time Warner about the VPN (IPSec or SSL based, depending on your appliance). As another resort you could use something like gotomypc.com or logmein.com to get you access. There is a free version of logmein.com that allows I believe one pc connection, of course to get the full functionality, there is the pro version that gets you all the bells and whistle. Give them a try. They both I believe give you a 30 day trial of their pro software.
They are doing the same thing as Comcast. They assume your are using VPN because you have a business and they want to charge you accordingly. Good luck.
depending on what your using it for logmein.com works great. You get a 30 day free trial of their pro software then it backs down to their free software.
Free software allows basic administration of the remote computer like you are sitting at it.
Pro allows file transfer between remote and local machine as well as printing to any attached remote computers and local machine drives showing up on remote computer and vice versa.
Just depends on what your in to.
