Basically what I want to do is hook up a USB device and have it be wireless. Let's take the Microsoft fingerprint scanner for instance. For the sake of example, let's say I wanted to mount the fingerprint scanner outside of my apartment door. Well, my computer is in the bedroom, so I'd need an awful lot of extension cables. However, if I could plug the scanner into a wireless transmitter and plug the receiver into the computer, my problem would be solved. Is this possible? If so, would it work with any USB device?

Any guidance is extremely appreciated!

You hypothetical example is an interesting application.

There are a few references to what you want, but you will have to investigate the actual device compatibility.

Great find rvnguy! The Belkin wireless hub seems to be exactly what I was looking for. The NewEgg search produced results, however the hubs were not wireless. Thanks much for taking the time to find this! Definitely worth a big star!!

I would put a computer close to the door, and let it log into the WIFI network. If the scanner signal was down, that might pose problems. With a PC, it could even open the door for the right person, or turn OFF the doorbell! :)
