Is there any process to upgrade from a norstar 128 DR5 to a 0x32 MICS and retain any of the existing programming info. The system has over 75 sets and there is some consern about loosing set programming. I assume the new software will be 6.1.

if you mean 8x24 ...nope

None. New hardware new software, new programming.

YOU CAN I HAVE DONE SO MANY TIMES.
You will need to do a backup of your 8x24 DR5 using a RAD and Norstar Manager.
Mimimum DR5 revision is 30MUJ20.
You will have an option in Norstar Manager to upgrade the DR5 database to R1T1.
You can then install an R1T1 cartridge into the new MICS cabinet. The system size must be the same.
If you had a six port expansion card in your 8x24 you will need a six port expansion card in your MICS.
Restore your upgraded database to the MICS using Norstar Manager.
Upgrade the R1T1 to MICS 3.0 to minimize data loss.
Using the standard Nortel MICS upgrade tool upgrade to a 5.0 release of MICS to mimimize data loss.
Note if you are upgrading to XC software you will need the XC upgrade tool.
Once at 5.0 software you may upgrade to 6.1 by replacing the PCMCIA software card.
Process takes about two hours.
You may lose your system speed dials, restrictions, and service mode programming.

If you can do a print out of the data base from a RAD it would seem to me to be about as much work to hand bomb it from the print out.. perhaps faster. Interesting idea Aragon... but most of us don't have all the upgrade tools. Got any cheap used ones there?

thank you aragon .
I think getting all the software cartridges and upgrade tools necessary seems daunting .
i thought if i it was only one intermediate step i might be able to swing it.
Arr mentioned doing a print out from the rad.
I wasn't aware norstar manager had that option.
To get a hard copy would be perfect.
What is the process for that.
Hand bombing it in, is a lot faster than hand bombing a back up copy.

Gents, you do not have to ramp up all the way to 6.1.
Any of the intermediate releases might do the trick.
In the old days to save time I would bring a new MICS to the site and replicate the software programming using two M7310's. A complete reprogramming could take less than an hour, but you will never be able to duplicate the buttons programming for every set. This is bad if you have a lot of M7310's at the customer site.
You could skip the 5.0 step and go directly to 6.x these additional revs are to avoid database loss.
There are only two upgrade tools necessary one for NA (non XC systems) and one for XC (USA or CDA for etiquette and CT2+). The upgrade tools are reusable.

im not sure i have access to any intermediate software.
if i go to pri, and did's the trunk programming will all be new .
i was more conserned with the set programming and speed dial lists.
all the sets are 7310's
i will probably have to change all the sets button assignments any way.
can i get a print out from norstar manager in case some one gets upset when i blow away their speed call lists. i could then put it back in afterwards.
otherwise i should just warn everyone to make sure they have all their numbers on a list and re program them themselves.

Sometimes it's better to start with a clean slate.
That way you know exactly what's in the programming.

If you can get the lists on paper, you can always use the Offline programming tool or the browser tool to put in the speed dial list.
