Is there a way to subtract a punked&bloated shape from another shape?

Hi there! I want to subtract a sun-like shape (made by punk & bloating a star) from a circle, but when I try to use intersect or minus front it minuses the star, not the sun-like shape. Is there a way to minus the sun-like shape? Thanks

There is but I'm not telling you (just kidding).

Just make sure your P&B'd object is above the circle in the stacking order then choose both objects and select 'Subtract from shape area' in the Pathfinder palette.
