Is there a way to stop Autoplay on a USB port?

I have Windows XP3 Pro SP2.

Whenever I connect a USB device to my computer, like a Pocket PC using ActiveSync, Autoplay pops up with a windows Explorer.

Is there a way to stop this action from occuring?

I know that I can normally shut Autoplay off using a drive letter, but what if the device doesn't have a drive letter?

I tried doing the setups in the article
Security Watch: Killfiles.AD Could Wipe Out Your System
Security Tip: Disable Autoplay For All Devices

This didn't seem to do anything.

The problem only seems to happen when I plug in my Pocket PC, and when ActiveSync pops up an Explorer Window pops up that points to the C:\Documents and Settings\SCARPT directory. Any windows that appear also seem to be blinking, like they disable, then enable, as if the system is doing something or waiting for some action on the USB port. Totally weird behavior. Maybe it's not an autoplay problem.

I'll look at the other articles and see what they can offer.

I've used various search parameters in Google and I only got one hit about this same problem, but that person didn't get any solutions either.

Must be a very specific kind of problem.

If so, is the problem only related to that software and the Pocket PC, or all USB devices?

Please try with the solution below:

Start > Run and type gpedit.msc

Navigate to the following locations:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System

Enable the Turn off Autoplay option and set it to All drives. If it's been flustered by some previous setting in the past, it's a good idea to set it to Disabled, then Enabled. Restart PC to implement changes.
