I've added a lot words to a dictionary. Upgrades were done to our network at my work which caused problems with my InDesign --my tabs palette disappeared, so my ID had to be re-installed which reset my dictionary. I'm sure this will happen again where ID will have to be re-installed (I've had to do it 3 times in the past 10 months, all because of the tabs palette disappearing.)

Is there a way I can save my dictionary outside of ID so I can put it back in and not loose all the words I add? I'm in the healthcare field and we use many medical terms which are a pain in spellcheck.

...in CS2, when a user dictionary is created, the dictionary is created on the hard disk, the location can be found in the preferences dialogue box...

...the file should have an extension .udc for example:

User Dictionary.udc

The situation with the Tabs palette disappearing does NOT warrant a re-install. I often have a blank Tabs palette (as well as other funky issues with palettes). Are you on a Mac? If so, your permissions probably need to be repaired. You should repair permissions once a week and any time a program acts a little funky. If you're on a PC there may be something similar to repairing permissions...a cleanup of sorts of your directories.

Regarding the tabs palette disappearing...it was the permissions that was taken care of. I didn't do it -- our help desk did and I didn't quite understand what he did, so I thought it was re-install.
I'm on a PC.
