I pressed pause on a DVD playing in Power DVD and tried pressing print screen to get a screen shot of of the image. I did a "paste" into Paint . The screen shot appeared to be in Paint. I saved the file and when I re-opened it the image was blank. The same thing happens if I use IrfanView, Word or WP. The image is not really "pasted" into the file - it only looks that way. (I proved it by doing a "flip" in Paint and the "pasted" image did not flip.)

Is there any way of getting a screen shot image from a paused DVD playing in Power DVD that can be saved in a file in any format that can be displayed afterwards?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, it's to do with the way the image is being projected. If you google "screenshot media player" it will put you on the right path. I don't recall the exact settings required.

Thanks (and stars) SlimJohnD and Grenage. I'm going to try some of the free options first to see if I can get it to work.

Here is what I found with Google (as you suggested) and I'm putting it here as a reference for anyone who reads this (Some of them explain why you get a blank screen with printe screen):

I'm also going to look at Gadwin I don't know whether this actually works on DVDs like Snagit but it is free so it's worth checking.

Thanks again

Power DVD has its own screencap mechanism. I believe there's a small icon in the control menu.
And there's also a config page to set what you want to do with the screen shot. Like determine the location to save it.

Sorry - I forgot to actually give you the stars. I fixed that now so you have them.

vacunita -

Thanks for the info. My version of it does not have that - Ctl-C does nothing. I must have an old version (it doesn't say which version it is)

But I appreciate your trying to help (and a * of course!)

You could also use a digital camera to capture the image and then save it as a .jpg or ?

Cheers.

Star thanks, for the great question and for sharing your finds, xyzuser!

Thanks Zaster - never got a star for a question before :)

Sorry for getting late into this thread, but you mention you have the same behaviour with Word. Do you mean you cannot save a screen capture from Word?

Cheers,
Dian
