Oftentimes I want to know who is using our Business Objects XI system. Things like how regularly they are running reports or even using the system at all. I know that we could probably write queries off of the system database but I was wondering if there was any documentation on the schema? I am very proficient in Transact-SQL so I could write the queries but I need a database schema and descriptions of tables and fields..

Thanks,
Bessebo

You need more than that as much information is stored as blobs in the CE/BOE system.

You don't post the software being used or it's version, so I'll give you the means to llok it up yourself. In the future when posting about any software product in any forum please include this basic, essential info that every tech support line would inquire of right after your credit card info. ;)

Check out Apos tools (they have freebie tools and free trials):

I'm interested in who is/is not running reports via InfoView in Business Objects XI Release 2.

Thanks,
Bessebo

Version XI comes with a suite of Auditing reports that will tell you what you want to know regarding system usage.

In the X:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Samples folder where X is your install drive, is the file called auditing_rpt_en.biar.

This BIAR file contains the suite of auditing reports and the audit universe that the reports utilise.

You need to use the Import Wizard to Import these Audit Reports read 0 672704 on how to do so.

One additional thing is that these reports use the Audit universe and to get the reports working you may need to open the universe and create a new data connection to the audit database in order to get the reports to work.

Let me know if you need further assistance as some installations I have performed work without change and others require a change.

If you can get thes ereports working you will have more usage reports available to you than you should ever need.

Sorry, missed the version info in the 1st post.

The audit reports should satisfy your requirements if not, look to APOS.

The option to turn on Auditing, the Audit universe and reports are only available if you have Premium licensing. If you're on Professional licenses where users will only access Crystal, then auditing is not an option.

In order to turn on auditing and select the actions to be audited, you have to log into the CMC, select Servers, and turn on auditing for specific servers. On the Cache Server, turn on "A report has been viewed successfully" to show who is viewing reports - both on-demand and instances. On the Report Job Server, turn on "A job has been run successfully" to see who is scheduling instances. If your users use the Advanced DHTML Viewer, you'll also need to turn on several options on the RAS.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

Also, if you don't have the auditing feature, you should be able to get some of this information through the SDK. You won't be able to see who is viewing reports on demand, but you should be able to see who is scheduling instances of reports and when a user last logged in.

Auditing is available on BOE XI R2 on Pro OR Premium licensing

Hi,
The availablilty of Auditing for the Professional version is new, so contact your Business Objects support person for the new license key that enables it ( They also now include the Report Explorer as well)

Actually, we upgraded to Premium licenses because we're now doing ad-hoc reporting with WebI. It's good to know that they've now included auditing with the Pro licensing.

Thanks!

Hilfy,
I would love to hear about your deployment of ad-hoc reporting with Webi as this will be our next step as we are just rolling our BOXI Release 2 this week as an upgrade to Crystal Enterprise 9. Can I email you directly?

Regards,
Bessebo
