I work in a WinNT O/S environment. We have an install process for IE5.5 (Intenet Explorer) that automatically reboots the workstations to complete the installation via SMS (System Management Server). A problem arose with WMI (Windows Management Interface) not being able to locate certain pieces of hardware unless the hardware is rebooted. For example, if the servers that house the files for the IE5.5 install are not rebooted after it completes the WS updates, WMI will not register that machine --unless it is rebooted.
Could there be some dependency on the SNMP the (simple network management protocol) of IE5.5 -- and WMI?
Wild guess.
