I am looking at a "sniffer" on our internal network (not connected to the outside in any way. I am seeing a tremendous amount of traffic going to 10.0.255.255 in UDP form. This is not in our used scope. And nothing is coming from it... only to it. Can anyone tell me is this some sort of default address used by Microsoft or "someone else" built into software or something. It looks like 25% of our traffic is going there. But like I said nothing is coming from it. Should I be concerned or is this a normal Address?
Thanks for any help If this is not the best forum to use ... please feel free to suggest another one. I'm open to any help at all. The traffic is coming from a combination of other users and even servers. I can see that it is a UDP and now I see too that it is either ( I see both) netbios-dgm with a packet size of 248 and netbios-ns with a packet size of 92.

10.0.255.255 is a broadcast address for a 10.0.xxx.xxx network with a 255.255.0.0 subnet. A broadcast destination means that every computer in the subnet is supposed to receive it. If your network is using 10.0.xxx.xxx addresses and you have a 255.255.0.0 mask, no wories. Otherwise, you have some machines that are not properly configured.

The broadcasts that you are seeing are related to NetBIOS name resolution and are perfectly normal.

Thanks mhkwood ... That is what I was hoping would be the answer. But I needed some kind of verification. I couldn't find anything doing searches in microsoft etc. So I hoped I would get an answer here.
As usual I did.
Thanks again
