Is there a counter on HP printer Deskjet 890C ?

I bought a HP printer, Model Deskjet 890C back in 1998, 7 years ago, which still works very well.
So far I used the following cartridges:
- 5 HP original Black cartridges, 42 ml each at $35.- each
- 20 refills, black 42 ml, at $20.- each
- 3 HP original color cartridges at $44.- each
- 4 refills, 3 colors, at 22.- each (all plus taxes.

My questions are:

1) Is there a hidden paper counter on that printer?

2) Do you know approximately how many sheets of paper
8 1/2 x 11" I used so far?

I must say that I am very pleased with the performance of this printer, no repairs whatsoever, it needed only one time
professional cleaning for $60.

Your technical evaluation woud be very much appreciated.

Well I had the HP 895Cxi until it did finally die on me (absolutely brilliant for 4/5 years)
I never saw a paper counter in all that time (not even hidden)
And over that time I used several differant driver variants from 98SE to XP SP1

I am certian that there is a counter of sorts within the printer as this is the basic method that they use to estimate the Ink cart life.

I am also posttive that HP will not instruct you on how to access this. This is not, a total counter and resets upon new cartridge replacement.

Hello Paparazi and rvnguy:
Thank you very much for your input. I just loaded another refill black cartridge and the good old HP 890C is still churning away and prints nice crisp copies.

6 months ago, I also bought another HP PSC 2344xi all-in-one
printer-scanner-copier and it does a good job. Possibly a tad slower than the 890C, but for my purpose good enough.
