There seems to be a lot of customers, from different parts of the country, with problems dialling out. Has anyone heard anything?

actually - had a customer in London with the issue - who is the provider? BT or TalkTalk or Gamma?

It's Gamma. This is an excerpt of an email that just came through

As you know we have had issues impacting on a number of partners across a number of platforms since lunchtime today. The cause of these problems are transmission issues on two of our diverse fibre links between two of our London data centres simultaneously. Both our transmission suppliers are looking into this as a matter of urgency. All our platforms are running as normal. Obviously, we are working round the clock to solve the problems and investigating all options to ensure service is resumed, as well as exerting pressure on our fibre providers.
