Hi,

I have installed the Freebsd on a Dell 5000 laptop equiped with a card bus.

Now the only thing I can not get to work is the card bus (network card).

Is the card bus supported by 4.4

Thank you all.

Yes, the cardbus is supported. I know someone who using a laptop with cardbus who has had FreeBSD 3, 4 and 5 (alpha) installed.

I don't know any specifics, though, but here is a website to help with laptop FreeBSD:
Also, search for "cardbus", and you will get 25 result links.

According to the documentaion from freebsd.org

FreeBSD currently supports 16-bit PCMCIA cards, but not 32-bit ("CardBus") cards. A database of supported cards is in the file /etc/defaults/pccard.conf.

So Now I wonder if it supports the 3com realport.

Thanks

I see. I guess the 32-bit cardbus is different. Not too familiar with laptop stuff...

But, from you will see that cardbus support was coming:

OLDCARD pccard implementation

In the last two months, the OLDCARD pccard implemenation was rototilled to within an inch of its life. Many new pci cardbus bridges were added. Power handling was improved. PCI Card cardbus bridges are nearly supported and should be committed in early June to the tree. This will likely be the last major work done on OLDCARD. After pci cards are supported, work will shift to improving NEWCARD.

In other words, if you get the latest Stable update of version 4.4, and play around with it a bit, you might be lucky ;-). Or, if you are willing to play with FreeBSD 5.0, you might get even more cardbus support:
